Let justice prevail

The horrific incident of deputy speaker Tumke Bagra's son gunning down a person at Aalo has sent shockwaves across the state. On Monday night Kajum Bagra allegedly killed one Kenjum Kamsi outside a hotel at Aalo. The duo reportedly developed animosity over distribution of contract works under SIDF and SADA. The incident is grim reminder of how nexus between political families and officials continues to run show in the state. Kajum Bagra is not the only person hailing from influential political family to be alleged of using their connection to get contract works. There are several other such examples. Most of the contract works in the state are executed by the family members of sitting MLAs.

It becomes very difficult for ordinary citizen to break these shackles. The Aalo incident should be wake up call for the people of Arunachal. It has exposes the dark political culture of state to the rest of the world. Often during election people take huge money from the politicians. Therefore after winning the election, MLAs and their relatives try to recover money by using all sorts of tricks. This is when whole problem starts. Conflict develops over contract works and it leads to bitter rivalry. There is need to introspect and ensure that such incident do not repeat in future. On their part police should make sure that family of late Kenjum Kamsi gets justice at any cost. Just because the accused is son of an MLA, the administration should not try to save him. Let law prevail and justice be delivered to the victim's family.

A fee for FIR

Dear Editor,

I am really saddened by the action of police personnel of Itanagar Police Station for forcefully taking a fee for registration of First information Report ( FIR) . Yesterday, I went to the police station to complain after I lost my Voter ID but surprisingly they demanded a fee for the FIR. They said if I don't pay the fees, my complaints won't be registered. They forcefully took some fees . If the law enforcement agency can do such kind of act then what can we aspect from them?

In which article of Indian Constitution has it been mentioned that aggrieved has to pay a fee to have the complain registered ?

I appeal to the concern authority to look into the matter and suspend the particular officer for taking fees from the poor citizens of India.

Clean the specs

Dear Editor,

A pair of specs should be as clean or swachhas it gets. Unfortunately, the logo of SwachhBharat does not care a fig about it. It has written presumably on Gandhiji's glasses, "Swachh" for his right eye and "Bharat" for his left one in bold font. No one can see clearly through such an opaque or aswachh specs. The catch line proclaims, "It is a step towards cleanliness" ("ek kadam swachhata ki aur"). But if someone dares to take a step wearing such a pair of glasses, it can even cause him fatal accident. First of all, our glasses must be transparent!

The gruesome murder and lack of transparency

Dear Editor,

The gruesome murder of Lt. Kenjum Kamsi by Kajum Bagra, a son of BJP MLA is a new type of incident for the people of West Siang. I condemn this from the core of my heart and demand extreme punishment to the culprit as per Law. Using the MLA's official vehicle for the crime is condemnable and the Deputy Speaker and MLA 30 Aalo west Assembly constituency Tumke Bagra should resign on Moral Ground for free and fair investigation.

I want to take dig here which led to the incident. There is a rising frustration among youths in Aalo Township. Funds are few for development and even those few funds lacks transperency in execution. There is no open plotting of Tenders in works departments. contrators specially youths do not know when the tender happened and in which newspaper it was published. Sometimes tender advertisement is done on the last day of tender submission that also in back date and sometime only three days limited time period is given for purchase and submission of Tender process. As these Tender process is very new for the people of Aalo and West Siang, it is not easy to manage documents in three days time. There is a nexus between the MLAs and HOD of concern departments It is done at their very will. The Rule of Law is totally missing in all the working Departments in Aalo Division.

I have collected a lot of paper through RTI filed by myself and others regarding MLA LADs, SIDF, SADA,RE Health And Education and District Administration, Projects and Funds Placed by State government.

LT.Kenjum Kamsi was a fighter. He fought for the Right and was aware of such happenings and the nexus . If there is any murderer of Kenjum kamsi, its the system that is prevailing in working department in West Siang Govt. Departments.

people of Aalo is known for its intelligence but it seems people here are not at all aware of projects under SIDF,RE,SADA etc due to lack of wide publication and hide and seek tender process of work by departments, which later creates chaos and frustration among youths when seeing the ongoing works. There is no newspaper advertisement of any works especially done in the month of Jan to march 2017.

If this trends continues in working departments in West Siang, then there will be more Kenjum kamsis and oneday officers will also fell prey to this.

If there is any sense of responsibility, i appeal the state vigillance dept to review and monitor the Tender Process in West Siang, specially 30 Aalo west and 31 Aalo east assembly constituency.

Engineering College at Toru soon: Ngandam

Higher and Technical Education Conference

ITANAGAR, Mar 28: The Government is looking forward to speedy establishment of an Engineering College at Toru in Papum Pare and necessary fund has been allocated for construction of administrative and academic blocks under RUSA scheme, said Education Minister Honchun Ngandam.

He informed this during the 17th Conference of the Department of Higher and Technical Education here on Tuesday.

'It is a matter of great relief that the state government, for the first time, has prioritized the infrastructural development of all government colleges in the state with a fund of Rs 55 crore', Ngadam said, adding that 'Although the state is a late starter in higher education sector, the state government is striving for development of this sector in different plan periods, and as result, the state has now seen 55 institutions of higher education'.

He informed that the state government, despite financial constraints, initiated to establish a state university at Pasighat and Rs 10 crore has been parked for construction of its administrative and academic block during this financial year. He hoped that the university would start its academic work from the next academic session.

Further, Ngadam expressed concern over decline in students' enrollment in government institutions during the current academic year and directed to find the reasons for it.

"Are our students looking for new avenues for employment or looking for new courses, which are not available in the state," Ngadam asked.

The Education Minister informed that to strengthen the digital knowledge of students, the Rajiv Gandhi University would receive all equipments very soon from ISRO for EDUSAT programme.

Talks are also on at the government level for student and teacher exchange programme with Cambodia, Lao DPR, Myanmar and Vietnam.

He cautioned authorities of respective educational institutes/ colleges to bring discipline among students and atmosphere that is conducive for teaching and learning. He said that there was growing indiscipline among students in various educational institutes which is adversely affecting the academic standards of various colleges.

He sought suggestions from all stakeholders to bring about a change in the education sector and improve the quality of education.

Parliamentary Secretary (Education) Pani Taram explained the role of teachers in moulding the future of students.

Taram also invited feedback in respect of higher education to rectify programmes and policies of the government.

Rajiv Gandhi University Vice Chancellor Professor Tamo Mibang stressed upon the quality of education.

'There are 733 universities in the country at present as compared to 12 in 1950, but none of them have yet achieved world class status', he said and urged the teachers to devote themselves in their profession and produce human resources by imparting quality education.

Earlier, in his presidential address, Education Commissioner Hage Kojeen stressed on the need to create an academic environment in educational institutes that is conducive for all.

Secretary Education Bidol Tayeng, Special Secretary (Education) Mitali Namchoom and Under Secretary (Education) Likha Tejji, among others, were present in the conference and participated actively in the technical sessions.

Tirap ZPC resents exclusion from PMAY scheme

ITANAGAR, Mar 28: ZPC, Tirap Sontung Bangsia has regretted the exclusion of 31 Segment of Tirap, out of 56 GP segments from the PMAY scheme. Such exclusion, she lamented would deprive the poor public of Tirap district who are already reeling under acute poverty and slow pace of development due to various factors.

She was speaking at meeting-cum-training programme on proper implementation of schemes under 2nd installment of Gram Panchayat Development Plan (GPDP) in Panchayat Department, Tirap was held on March 22 last at Community Hall, Khonsa.

She spoke about the need for all PRI leaders to work together for the grand development of the villages.

She thanked Chief Minister Pema Khandu for his proactive steps to empower the PR Department by initiating efforts for early implementation of the Chief Minister's Adarsh Gramin Yojna in the state soon.

District Project Development Officer, T Aran emphasized on the need to strictly adhere to the laid down guidelines while implementing the schemes. He also stressed for strengthening the Gram Sabha for proper execution and monitoring of the schemes.

A host of other PRI leaders also spoke on the occasion and shared their thoughts.

DPDO, member secretaries, ASCs, ASMs, GPCs, GPMs and other PR staff also attended the meeting.

PwDs get aid and appliances

CHONGKHAM, Mar 28 : Persons with disabilities (PwDs) of Namsai district received free necessary aid and appliances in an event organised by the National Institute of Empowerment for Persons with Multiple Disabilities (NEIPMD), Chennai, under the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, in association with Arunachal Pali Vidyapeeth (AVP) Holistic Rehabilitation Centre, Chongkham at the Arunachal Pali Vidyapeeth Complex.

One tricycle, six elbow crutches and 12 hearing kits were distributed by Socio-Economic Welfare Association, Namsai (SEWA).

The free aid and appliances were distributed by SEWA and manufactured by Artificial Limbs Manufacturing Company (ALIMCO), Guwahati, under Assistance to Disable Persons (AIDP) 2015-2016.

At least 50 people attended the programme, where games and sports were also held. President SEWA, Dr C M Thomoung said that the event was a part of a series of training and exhibition programmes for persons with disabilities.

Earlier on Monday, 150 persons with different disabilities of all age groups participated in the first day of the three-day programme, where Parliamentary Secretary for Forest and Environment, Chow Tewa Mein assured his full support and cooperation for future activities.

Ering introduces bill to establish Tribal Research & Dev University

ITANAGAR, Mar 28: A bill for establishing "National Tribal Research and Development University in Arunachal Pradesh" was introduced in the Parliament by Member of Parliament Ninong Ering.

The university aims to fill the research gap and formulate strong policies for tribal population in North Eastern states.

"There is lack of effective policies for tribal people in North East India. If the university comes into existence, it will be a major step towards filling the information gap while forming the policies for tribal people, especially in the North-Eastern states," Ering said.

He also said that there was an information asymmetry while dealing with issues of tribals, especially in North-East India, resulting in an information gap while forming policies for tribal population which further impacts effective implementation, the MP said.

The access to educational facilities, especially for the tribal population in our country is still very limited. Lack of tribal research and inadequate opportunities for higher studies leads to disadvantageous educational and socio-economic status of the tribal population," Ering added.

Awareness programe on RTI Act 2005 organized

ROING, Mar 28: Awareness programe on RTI Act, 2005 was organized by the Arunachal Information Commission, in collaboration with District Administration Lower Dibang Valley at Anchal Samiti Hall on Tuesday.

Speaking on the occasion State Chief Information Commissioner Dr Joram Begi enlightened on various provisions under RTI Act, 2005 and exhorted the participants to make proper use of the RTI Act in bringing transparency and accountability in the instruments of governance.

He also informed that the Act has empowered citizens to know their rights and responsibilities in all the developmental process. "If you are not properly informed you cannot express properly," he said, and urged for mass participation and mass awareness among the public and stakeholders on the RTI Act 2005 and NFSA Act 2013. He also said that the RTI Act should be implemented in letter and spirit to contain corruption at various levels and to grasp all-round development.

Responding to the public plea on PDS-related issues during an interactive session, he assured to take up the matter with the concerned authority and place a report on the outcome of the awareness programmes.

DC Deepak Shinde in his address stressed on significant components of RTI Act, 2005 and NFSA Act, 2013 and said that both the Acts are imperative in bringing transparency and development of a welfare state. He also called for sensitization of various provisions under both the Acts down to the grass root level.

Information Commissioners A K Techi, M Liggi and N Jamoh also spoke during the programme, where Techi elaborated on the procedure of filling RTI, time limit for supply of information, cost of information, ground for rejection under Section 8 of the Act, while Liggi informed on roles and responsibilities of PIO/ APIO.

Jamoh spoke on NFSA Act 2013 and urged for proper monitoring of all centrally sponsored schemes implemented by various departments under the Act.

In his PowerPoint presentation, Circle Officer (Supply) Rakesh Tacho highlighted the status report of the district and informed that Identification of Priority and AAY households to ensure Food Security through fixed entitlement and nutritional support to pregnant women and children are some important components of the NFSA Act. The DD (ICDS) and DDSE also presented their reports through PowerPoint presentations.

Among others, former Minister Tobar Jamoh, ADC Chesta Yadav, administrative officers, HoDs, PRI leaders, gaoh burahs, public, NGOs and other officials also attended the programme. (DIPRO)

GSU calls 2nd phase 36-hour bandh

ITANGAR, Mar 28: The Galo Students' Union (GSU) on Tuesday called its second phase 36-hour bandh from 5 AM of April 10 in Galo-inhabited areas of West Siang, East Siang and Upper Subansiri districts in protest against non-fulfillment of its charter of demands.

The GSU had enforced a 24-hour bandh in all the Galo-inhabited areas of the three districts in its first phase on March 27.

The shopkeepers/ businessmen downed shutters of their business establishments and vehicles stayed off the road during the bandh period, the GSU claimed.

A review meeting was also held by the Union after the end of the first phase of the bandh at Aalo and took serious note of the alleged "lackadaisical attitude" of the state government in fulfilling the demands.

Alleging that the state government was maintaining "double standards", the GSU said that it should maintain and follow the party's "Sabka Sath, Sabka Vikas" mantra in letter and spirit.

'No state can move forward by marginalizing a particular community. The state government should refrain from playing politics with the sentiments and the aspirations of the Galos', the GSU said.

The Union also announced of a 48-hr bandh from 5 AM, April 17 as its third phase of movement.

The GSU demands include, immediate functioning and posting of Deputy Commissioner and Superintendent of Police at Likabali, Lower Siang district, non-exclusion of any part under Nari Koyu Assembly Constituency from Lower Siang, cabinet approval as well as creation of Leppa Rada district, posting of all required doctors, medical staff and equipments at General Hospital, Aalo and its overall development, creation of trained graduate teacher, senior subject teachers' posts for upgraded Government Higher Secondary Schools, Liromoba, Nehru Memorial Aalo, Dari and Maro, permanent deployment of Central Reserve Police Forces, including forest guards at the entry point of Koyu and Kora Circle under Lower Siang, posting of regular SDO at Baririjo and immediate functioning of SDO office at Hakte Ripa, functionalization as well as review of various power projects under West Siang district, and upgrading District Resource Centre Kamki to a full-fledged DIET.

Nobin to represent India in Karate Premier League

ITANAGAR, Mar 28: Ace karate player of the state, P Nobin Jomoh has been selected to represent the Indian Karate team in the Karate Premier League - Karate 1- Championship (KPL) to be held at Dubai, United Arab Emirates from March 31 to April 2 next.

He is presently serving in Arunachal Pradesh Police as Sub Inspector.

Nobin, who was set to leave for Dubai from New Delhi on Tuesday evening, informed that the Karate Association of India has also selected him to attend the World Karate Federation's (WKF) coach accreditation course due to be held at Dubai around the same time.

Nobin has thanked Arunachal Karate-Do Association President Likha Tara, General Secretary Sensei Bulang Marik, Coach Guru Shihan Deven and Chimpu Sports Control Board Secretary Tojo Karga for their support and also extended his gratitude to Parliamentary Secretary for Tax and Excise Tapuk Taku for sponsoring his trip to the event.

Raja Bosumotary and Rima Pachi get Best NSS volunteer award

ITANAGAR, Mar 28: Raja Bosumotary of Dera Natung Government College and Rima Pachi of Rajiv Gandhi University have been conferred the State NSS Award-2016 for Best NSS Male and Female Volunteers respectively by the State NSS Cell, Directorate of Higher and Technical Education, GoAP, during the XVII conference of Higher & Technical Education held at the Golden Jubilee Banquet Hall here on Tuesday.

RGU Vice Chancellor Professor, Tamo Mibang presented the awards to both the NSS volunteers.

Raja, a final year student of DNGC had taken part in the Republic Day Parade at New Delhi in 2015-16, while Pachi went to Vietnam as part of the International Youth Exchange Programme under the Ministry of Sports & Youth Affairs in 2016.

Stay of govt employees in same place beyond tenure objected

DAPORIJO, Mar 28: The Arunachal Anti Corruption Sena (AACS) has strongly objected to overstaying of government employees in same place of posting in same department in the district.

In a release, the AACS informed that many HoDs in Upper Subansiri district have been staying in the same place of posting beyond the normal tenure of three years.

"As per government rules, the normal tenure of an officer in same place should be three years. But, some government employees here have been found staying in the same place of posting since last five to 12 years," the AACS said.

The Sena also alleged absenteeism by those overstaying officers, causing inconvenience to the public in getting their official work done.

Stating that complaints were lodged against those officials before the higher authorities, the Sena demanded immediate transfer of all overstaying government employees in the larger interest of the public and development of the district.

CSIR-NEIST organises skill development programme

ITANAGAR, Mar 28: CSIR-North East Institute of Science & Technology, Itanagar branch organised a skill development programme on "post training intervention for initial financial assistance and business link-up" under the CSIR-800 programme at the institute premises, Naharlagun on Tuesday.

CSIR-NEIST took upon itself the onerous task of developing a few simple technologies suitable for the micro-scale sector of the industry which are simple, easy to operate with low skill and minimum land, labour and capital, and are meant for the unskilled or semi-skilled entrepreneurs.

Accordingly, the institute had completed four awareness cum training programmes on mushroom spawn production and cultivation technology, vermicomposting, banana fibre extraction and products, solid and liquid deodorant, wood care, mosquito repellent incense sticks and candles, and cultivation of aromatic plants and distillation technology during February and March this year.

The basic objective of the programme of the post training intervention programme for the beneficiaries, entrepreneurs and farmers was to set up a business link-up and initial financial assistance to start or implement the CSIR technologies.

Around 60 farmers, villagers, and beneficiaries from different parts of Arunachal Pradesh and North Lakhimpur, Assam attended the day-long programme.

Dr Pinaki Sengupta, Chief Scientist, CSIR-NEIST Jorhat, while giving a brief introduction of the institute, urged all to come forward and take the advantages of technologies developed by CSIR-NEIST, Jorhat and Itanagar branch for societal benefit.

State Council for Science & Technology Chairman, Bamang Mangha appreciated the activities of the institute on skill development for the benefits of the entrepreneurs and socio-economic upliftment of the state with its latest technologies. He assured for help and cooperation from the State Council of Science & Technology to the entrepreneurs. He also talked about joint action programme in collaboration with state Council of Science & Technology, NEIST and the concerned departments of the Government of India.

Itanagar-Capital Complex ADM & CEO, Talo Potom assured to help maintain a peaceful atmosphere in the institute for scientific development to benefit the state. He also said that the unemployed youths can take the benefit by using its technologies and also to improve lifestyle.

He requested the authorities of NEIST to inform of its rural, micro and small scale technologies to the state Chief Minister and Chief Secretary in a meaningful way for implementation.

All Weaver’s Federation Tribal Emporium inaugurated

DAPORIJO, Mar 28: An All Weaver's Federation (AWFED) Tribal Emporium under the NABARD Rural Mart Scheme was inaugurated by Upper Subansiri Deputy Commissioner, A K Singh and NABARD District Development Manager, O P Maunglang on Monday last.

Appreciating the efforts put forth by the AWFED in promoting the socio-economic interest of poor weavers of the state, the DC advised the management and weavers of AWFED to be sensitive to the identity inherent in ones culture and custom while manufacturing traditional handloom items and only modify the product in such a way as to balance the preservation of one's identity while meeting up with the modern trends.

Maunglang in his address explained about the scheme of Rural Mart under NABARD and said that the scheme is provided to all eligible NGOs, SHGs and Cooperative Societies as a support base for economic venture, covering a two-year period. After the expiry of the designated tenure, beneficiaries must be able generate their own resources. He also informed that there is a provision of Rural Hut Scheme, trainings, exposure tours and participation in handloom exhibitions conducted all around the country.

DRCS-cum-Managing Director of Arunachal Pradesh State Weavers Cooperative Federation Limited, Gyati Kobing explained that catering to the needs and aspirations of the poor weavers is the prime objective of the AWFED. In their cooperative valuable services, the AWFED is providing low-priced yarn under Mill Gate Prices Scheme of National Handloom Development Corporation, Ministry of Textile, GoI, marketing avenues at state, regional and national levels and providing small short term loans at nominal interest to all weavers through cooperative societies under the Weavers Micro Finance Schemes.

Towards preservation of Peming A:bang

PASIGHAT, Mar 28: With a mission to preserve and promote "Peming A:bang", the Central Donyi-Polo Yelam Kebang (CDPYK) Pasighat organized three days discourses, inviting a Miri (priest/expert) to perform the Peming A:bang at the central Engo Takar Dere, Pasighat.

"Peming A:bang"is a very rare and unique narration of the spiritual journey of the migratory birds from the high seas to the lofty mountains and back. It is an integral part of the Adi community but due to lack of practice and experts (Miris), the age-old traditional art is gradually eroding due to modernization.

Besides, Peming A:bang Miri from Kerang village, Tarung Nyitan, ponung parties presented spectacular traditional dances to enthrall audiences.

Attending the discourses, local MLA Kaling Moyong and Deputy Commissioner Tamiyo Tatak lauded the efforts of CDPYK and encouraged the participants. The duo also stressed on the need to revive and preserve the age-old culture.

Secretary General Tajom Tasung, Chief Organizer Karmur Jerang, Cultural Secretary Oyin Moyong, Coordinator Kaling Borang, President Obi Jerang, Women President Opet Gao and Women Secretary Yabor Taggu played active roles in organizing the programme. (DIPRO)

Teachers' association submits memo on promotion

ITANAGAR, Mar 28: The All Arunachal Pradesh Elementary Teachers' Association (AAPETA) has in a three-point memorandum to the Minister for Education on Tuesday, appealed to him to initiate early steps to restore 50 percent promotional avenue of AT/ JT for regular teachers by repelling the August 7, 2009 Cabinet decision, replace district head of Education Department i.e, DDSE in-charge to the post of DAEO after completion of three years of tenure and rationalize transfer and posting of teachers from Capital Complex to other districts. It has further sought early action on his part to redress its genuine grievances.

First TVC meeting held

ITANAGAR, Mar 28: The first meeting of Town Vending Committee (TVC) was held on Tuesday in the Deputy Commissioner's office.

The Committee, formed under the chair of the Chief Municipal Executive Officer (CMEO), has representatives of local administration and police, Itanagar Municipal Council, Department of UD, market associations, vendors and hawkers.

CMEO Habung Lampung elaborated on the details of the TVC and provisions of the Arunachal Pradesh Street Vendors (Protection of Livelihood and Regulation of Street Vending) Act, 2011. He informed that the Act was notified on the 18th of May, 2011, and was enacted to regulate street vendors in public areas and protect their rights.

The Committee is entrusted with various functions according to the Act. It will identify and grant licenses to the vendors, identify vending zones, declare timings of zones, ensure adequate civic amenities, quality of products and services, conduct training of street vendors etc. According to the Act, every person above 18 years can apply for registration as street vendor to the TVC. Registered vendors will be given preference in allotment of stalls.

Capital Complex Deputy Commissioner, Prince Dhawan emphasized on the importance of the Act and on the need to identify vending zones, survey of vendors and issue of vending licenses. According to him, number of vendors shall be fixed in a particular zone in consultation with the TVC, with the help of the Traffic Department and concerned EAC. The DC hoped that the TVC would go a long way in the beautification of the Capital Complex and also enable vendors and hawkers to earn their livelihood in a respectable manner.

Itanagar PS OC, T Bage highlighted the need for proper coordination of every group of vendors and hawkers. Officer in-charge of City Traffic suggested that the vending activities should not be in the Right of Way of the highway.

Other speakers emphasized on maintaining cleanliness in the vending areas and also importance of coordination of various stakeholders for effective implementation of the Act.

The Committee in its maiden sitting adopted resolutions to identify vending zones and presented details of issues and their solutions specific to vendors by the next meeting scheduled for April 11 next.

Post harvest management of fruit crops

PASIGHAT Mar 28: A three-day training programme on post harvest management of fruit crops was organized at the College of Horticulture & Forestry, Central Agricultural University, Pasighat by the Department of Fruit Science from March 23 to 25 last.

In all, 30 farmers from Mebo, Boleng, Kiyit, Ayeng, Napit and five fruit traders from Pasighat participated in the training programme.

Sensitization was given on the stages of fruit maturity and appropriate harvesting stages of different fruits. Besides, horticultural practices of delaying the process of ripening and hastening the ripening process with proper methods were also shared by the resource persons.

Do not grant bail to assailant, NWS appeals

PASIGHAT Mar 28: The Nino Welfare Society submitted a representation to the district administration on Monday not to entertain any bail plea by one Tapun Jerang of Tekang village, who has been arrested by the police on charges of attempt to murder on one Tajong Jamoh of the same village.

The accused was arrested vide Pasighat PS Case No. 44/2017 U/S 307 IPC.

Informing about the incident and NWS meeting with the Deputy Commissioner, General Secretary of the organisation, Ocean Gao told this reporter that, 'Jerang and Jamoh had a dispute over a plot of land in the village. But the accused charged the victim with a sharp dao (machete). If people around had not intervened, the accused would have killed the victim'.

Accordingly, granting bail to the accused at this juncture will be viewed as an encouragement to such crimes and presumed as failure by the administration to provide safety and justice to the common citizens of the district, the NWS added.

The NWS has also written to Jering Matkir Society requesting them not to support bail plea of the accused.

VC's T20 cricket tourney begins

RONO HILLS, Mar 28: The Political Science Department beat VC XI in the opening match of the Rajiv Gandhi University Vice Chancellor's T20 Cricket Trophy Tournament at the university playground, Rono Hills on Tuesday.

Registrar of the university, Professor Rachob Taba and Dean of Students Union Dr Tasi Kaye were present during the opening ceremony.

In total, 16 teams from different departments are participating in the tournament.

Fair enquiry sought

ITANAGAR, Mar 28: Claiming that an FIR lodged against a police officer in the rank of inspector serving at PTC Banderdewa on January 23 has been registered on March 18, one Kipa Hipik in a letter to the Director General of Police has appealed for fair investigation into the case.

Earlier, Hipik reportedly had lodged an FIR at Banderdewa Police Station against Inspector Gari Tai, alleging that the police officer managed to get her appointment by submitting fake graduation certificate.

Investigation against the police officer, who was recently promoted to the rank of Deputy Superintendent of Police, has been endorsed to a Sub-Inspector, Hipik further claimed and demanded that the police officer be placed under suspension for an impartial and fair investigation.

Earlier, in a press statement, Tai had vehemently denied the allegation and termed the allegation "fake and fabricated".

CoSAAP's demand resented

ITANAGAR, Mar 28: The Abo Tani Clan Organization has in a release on Tuesday, strongly objected to the demands of the Confederation of Service Associations of Arunachal Pradesh (CoSAAP), seeking enhancement of the superannuation age of the state government employees from 58 to 60 years. It opposed the CoSAAP's demand saying it was not in the interest of the state's thousands of unemployed youths as it deprives them of job opportunities.

Murder condemned

ITANAGAR, Mar 28: Strongly condemning the alleged murder of one Kenjum Kamsi (40) of Angu village by Kajum Bagra, son of Deputy Speaker-cum-BJP MLA, Tumke Bagra in Aalo on Sunday last, the Save Arunachal Youth Association has in a release on Tuesday, sought exemplary punishment for the accused under appropriate sections of the law. The Association also urged the West Siang Superintendent of Police to arrest the accused and not to grant him bail.

Meanwhile, the Galo Peoples' Front (GPF) expressed grief and sorrow over the death of the young leader.

Condemning the heinous crime in its strongest term, the Forum appealed to all for restrain and calm, and to refrain from giving the unfortunate incident a political color.

"Law will take its own course," the Forum said.

Stating that incidents, like rape, murder etc. are rare in the community, the GPF hoped the intellects of the community will surely come up with an amicable solution to it.

The members of the Forum also observed two-minute silence as a mark of respect to the departed soul.
